FAQ

Frequently asked questions about our label

We define the term “local” as within one country. Therefore, we check whether all components of a product are sourced from the country of production. This applies without exception, even small quantities such as spices in the ingredients of food products are no exception. In addition to the components and ingredients, we also check whether the workers are employed locally and whether the producing company pays its taxes on profits in the country of production.

Unfortunately, packaging is not yet part of the audit. One of the reasons for this is that we cannot guarantee that our rules, including shipping packaging and reselling is adhered to by all participants throughout the entire sales process. After all, it is not the sellers who are certified by us – it is currently the manufacturers. Nevertheless, we are working on a solution to be able to include packaging in our label in the future.

Yes, every test report is available online in a completely transparent way. If the space on the products allows it, you will find our label there, including a QR code. If you scan this, you will be taken directly to the respective test report. If there is not enough space for the QR code, you can find a list of all tested products here.

There is a detailed annual audit for every product tested, in which all tax documents and the associated manufacturing processes are checked for plausibility with regard to regional production. Each supply chain is traced back to its origin and it is ensured that all components of the product come from the same country. In addition, we make at least one on-site visit every year. This allows us to check during ongoing operations whether the documented figures correspond to reality. For companies with many different production sites, the number of on-site inspections per year can be significantly higher. The result of each individual inspection is then documented online and can be accessed via the QR code of our label on the corresponding product.

All participating companies with a pro local label are subject to an agreed notification obligation as soon as they make a change to their supply chain. If, during an audit, we discover that this requirement has not been met, we will immediately announce this on our website and at the same time the product concerned is no longer entitled to carry our label.

As our main audits take place annually, a product receives the pro local label for a limited period of one year and then again after the new audit. In addition to the main inspection, we visit the production sites twice in the course of this year and ensure on-site that the implementation takes place according to the production specifications. If we detect a violation of our 100%-rules during an inspection, the validity of our label expires with immediate effect.

For us, the following applies to the production of animal products such as milk, eggs, cheese or meat products: The animal must be born locally, be cared for by domestically employed staff and the entire utilisation must also take place within the country. The animal must therefore spend its entire life on site and may not be taken abroad for certain periods of time, so that the producer gets subsidies, which is possible if special regulations are met.

We are currently working on this. Similar to packaging, the issue of animal feed becomes more complicated, because more companies are involved in the whole feed production process. Our approach is to certify as many regional feed suppliers as possible, in order to ensure local production along the entire value chain.
